June 18, 2011 Rejected Book Plot #79
What does it say about me as a woman if all my favorite “romance” movies are born out of tragedy? Garden State- mom dies so Zach Braff goes home and meets Natalie Portman. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind- the entire movie is about erasing the memory of your love. Secretly, I love the movie Catch and Release and that begins with Jennifer Garner’s finance dying. The part of me that coos over gooey romance just isn’t in me. Although, a well placed musical number is not out of the question (See: any number from Across the Universe but pay extra attention to I’ve Just Seen A Face).
Lucy was surrounded by what popular culture, her mother and best friends deemed the proper way to act as a lady. Lucy was always more interested in finding things that made her happy rather than propriety. So when her father unexpectedly died while bowling, love was the last thing on Lucy’s mind. Whether she knew it then or not Lucy was about to meet Ben. On paper, Ben didn’t fit either which made him the perfect fit in Lucy’s world.
Watch as Ben and Lucy meet, fight, dance, fight, love, laugh, fight and create a life in the most unusual way that makes perfect sense for them.
