Rejected Book Plots

Not every book can be the next Twilight

Bridesmaids

Taking a brief detour for the daily rejected book plot I want to talk about the genius that was Bridesmaids. I know, I know everywhere you turn someone is raving about how excellent it was or how it isn’t a chick flick and guys will love it just as much and all of that is true. The thing I think people are neglecting is how underrated Kristen Wiig’s performance was. She has always been hilarious whether she’s the most annoying (yet accurate) Target checkout woman or dressing up as McGrubber in a coffee shop but in Bridesmaids she brings an understated realness to the performance. Starring as Annie, Wigg plays a girl whose childhood best friend gets engaged and she is asked to be the maid of honor. Annie’s life is anything but great and the engagement only magnifies the feeling that her life has gone seriously wrong. In between the hilarity Wiig never lets you forget that she’s dying on the inside. She feels like she’s losing her best friend not only to her new husband but the new friends she’s picked up along the way. But at the end of the day she wants nothing more than to make it the best experience for her best friend no matter how much it hurts. However, life doesn’t always work out the way you plan it…

Bridesmaids is fantastic representation of the complexities of female friendsips and just goes to show woman can also be funny and a bit gross. What are you waiting for? Go see this film!
